Ricki Heller’s cookbook “Sweet Freedom: Desserts You’ll Love without Wheat, Eggs, Dairy or Refined Sugar” (Trafford Publishing, Victoria) has just been short listed for the prestigious Canadian Culinary Book Awards in the English Special Interest Category. The nomination comes hot on the heels of the vegan dessert guru and holistic nutritionist’s coup in which vegan TV Talk Show Host Ellen DeGeneres listed Sweet Freedom as one of only three cookbooks under her “Books Ellen Reads.” You can read our reviews here.

Heller is a long-time “heroine” to vegans, those with lactose and gluten intolerances, those following Kosher diets and others who simply want healthier dessert options. Sweet Freedom stands alone as the only dessert book serving up delicious, decadent desserts made without animal products and entirely from whole and minimally processed foods–with no refined sugar in any of the recipes. About 30% of the recipes are entirely gluten free.
