Tantrums

I am at my wits end – my 3 year old throws at least one huge tantrum a day. I just don’t know what to do, I am so sick of them. Can anyone help me make them stop?

  1. What ever you do don’t give into them! I had a friend who I used to get on really well with. Her daughter went through this phase. She used to have total melt downs in the shops. She’d let it go on for a bit and try to ignore it but eventually she always gave in -the child learnt that if she just kept going she’d get what she wanted. The tantrums got worse and worse! Long story short I am sad to say we are no longer friends. I just couldn’t handle the child’s behaviour and I didn’t want my son learning that that kind of behaviour was acceptable.

  2. Twitter:
My 3 year old daughter is going through that too. And ya, I agree with the above commenter. Don’t give it.

I just keep repeating to myself over and over again “this too shall pass, this stage won’t last forever”.

We also use time outs – we have steps from our living room to the upstairs and she sits on the bottom step. We have to physically take her to the step to sit her down but she stays there and it really does work.

  3. Walk away completely. My daughter used to be the tantrum queen! She would have massive screaming melt downs and throw herself on the floor. I never gave her any attention for that kind of behaviour. It was just a phase, and although it was trying, she did grow out of it because she eventually realized it didn’t work
