My son doesn’t seem to like sports very much but I don’t want him to grow up unfit. What can I do to maybe change his mind or just get him more active?

We never found that we could easily afford the sports that are on offer, but we live near a beautiful national park. We used to make sure we went for regular bushwalks – every weekend we’d pack a picnic and go exploring! My son loves it. He learnt lots of new and exciting things and we were out and about getting as much exercise as any soccer team and bonding and making great family memories at the same time.

Just keep trying different sports until you find one he likes. We found our daughter did not really like team sports since she is not the greatest of athletes and often she’d be left out and not be passed the ball. So we kept looking for something she’d like and now she loves tap dancing and she’s great at it and she doesn’t have to compete with anyone but her self. She’s getting great exercise and it’s great for her self esteem.

Our 3rd son refused to get involved in any sports too. But ever since he was tiny he loved the water so we got him involved in swimming. He took him to squad training twice a week to do laps at the pool – he loves it.
