What Age Did You Start Your Child In Preschool?

I’ve been wondering whether its time to enroll my daughter into preschool so I’m wondering what others think is the right age to start the process. What factors should I be considering? Thanks

  1. My son actually started at 18 months. This was particularly early (we paid through the nose for the private program), but with the kids being 18 months apart I needed those 3 mornings to hold it together.
My daughter will start at 2.5 years – that is the usual starting age in Ontario.

  2. Thanks, I figured about 2 1/2 but I wasn’t sure. It’ll be good for my daughter to spend a little time away from me I think to gain some independence.

  3. She seems to be getting more and more attachment issues lately whenever I leave the house to go outside without her even for a moment so I need to start weaning her away from me a little. Another thing is she’s not quite potty trained yet. She’ll go when I put her on the potty and keeps her pull-ups pretty dry but she just won’t come and tell me when she has to go. I’m hoping to have her trained when I enroll her in preschool (crossing my fingers)

  4. My son started nursery school at 17 months and my daughter started at age 2. Both were in mornings only 2 or 3 days a week until their last year when they went 5 mornings a week. it really prepared them for Kindergarten. Some nursery schools will work on toilet training your child while others insist your child be toilet trained before they begin. Fortunately the school we used helped my children with toilet training. Good Luck!

  5. I actually did not send my son to preschool. He stayed at home with me during that time. I did mommy and toddler get-togethers and stuff like that. He did start Junior Kindergarten at age 4.

My daughter started when she was just a little over 2. We have an outstanding nursery school near us… and it’s only 2 1/2 hours twice a week…. it has done WONDERS for her socially. She’s always been shy, and when we would go to toddler get-togethers she would only sit on/by me… now she has the confidence to play with the other kids.

My oldest son started at 4, my younger son started at 3 and daughter will start at 3 1/2. Personally I think early is better just because my kids have all enjoyed it so very much! I would have started my daughter at 2 1/2 but we have had potty training issues with her so I wasn’t able to.
