changing to next car seat

When is the right time to switch a toddler from a front facing car seat to a booster seat? I know it is at 40lbs, but what if my child weighs 40lbs and is only 3.5 years old. Is that too early/young?

  1. If you are using the shoulder/lap belt already then switch to the booster. I was surprised to read bad safety ratings about using tha shoulder strap with car seats that have 5 point harness. They allow the lap belt to fit across childs belly instead of where it should be, which is across the top of there legs/pelvis. You don’t want there tummy hurt in an accident.

  2. Here’s a blog written by a Traffic Services police officer about car seats – he goes into great detail. http://trafficservicestps.blogspot.com/
