What Do I Need?

6

After years of trying, we are finally expecting. We are scheduled for sometime in mid September.
I am finding out about so many things we are going to need. Crib, stroller, diaper genie etc…
That is all a great help.
I was however wondering if anyone had a nice comprehensive list of everything needed and why.
Cheers

  1. Congratulations on the great work! Here are some thoughts on the most important things to buy:
    crib and mattress
    change table
glider (not a must- but one of our best purchases ever)
diaper genie (or if using cloth diapers, some type of a storage system)
    stroller
diaper bag (let your wife choose this – it will be her purse!)
Bath seat (we love the Daphne)
    diapers/ wipes. bum cream

    Good lucK!

  2. Momoftwo gave you a great list of things to buy… here are some things to borrow (if you can):
    - swing
    - bouncy chair
    - bucket car seat (must be less than 5 years old)
    - baby carrier (front carrier and/ or sling)
    - swaddle blanket

Things you will likely receive as presents (i.e. don’t buy)
    - onesies
    - sleepers
    - receiving blankets
    - clothing

    Other things to consider buying:
    - breast pump (or you can rent from the hospital for the first few weeks)
    - baby monitors

We are here if you need anything!

  3. A couple other thoughts…
    - towels (hooded are great for newborns)
    - facecloths
    - nursing pillow
    - crib sheets (3 sets)
    - nightlight
    -nursing bras
    - nursing pads
    - nipple cream

  4. You will need a cosleeper bassinet/crib by armsreach
especially if you plan on nursing.
You will need nursing shirts and pads.
a boppy pllow and a swaddler with velcro on the side.
    best off getting the book

I saw an amazing episode of “Til Debt do us part” where the newly expectant parents invited all their friends with kids over for a lunch. Together they made a huge list of things that they needed and (the best part) each of the friends had things that the couple could borrow. It was a great idea. Not only do you get a comprehensive list from those that know, you also get to borrow some of the things that you’ll only use for a while. Plus, you won’t end up buying things that you “think” you need.

All of those things that have been mentioned. My Godsend was the bouncer chair. Both of my kids loved it and it allowed me to get other things done! They could have a little cat nap and I could set them down in which ever room I was in.

Also, consider hiring a professional photographer to do maternity and/or newborn portraits. They are memories you’ll cherish forever.
