OM.  When I was asked to review the Yoga Tot DVD, I had visions of my kids and I in a meditative state,  doing our sun salutations and downward dogs in unison. I thought we would dragon breathe and indulge in corpse pose for hours.  I was wrong.  There were no sun salutations or corpses – but there were tons of monkeys, cats and elephants. It was AWESOME!!

I saved the DVD for housebound snowy day.  Right when we were all about to unravel from being cooped up together without a break, I clicked on our yoga DVD.  WHen I told the kids we were going to do some “yoga”, The Boy (3 years old) immediately jumped up and down and said “Yay!! Oh Yay! We are going to YoGabbaGabba!”. When I said we were going to do yoga, he nodded all knowlingly and said very seriously  “Oh, we are going to yogurt”.

The DVD is cleverly divided into 3 components:

1. Tots teach the yoga.  The first time we “yoged” as The Boy now says, it was the least successful section.  The adult is meant to mimic and follow the movements of the toddler.  Mine, having never seen the video or yoga, just stood there staring at the TV and at me.  HOWEVER, after having “yoged” a couple of times now, the kids are getting hte hang of it, and they get a real kick out me following their moves.

2. Parents teach the yoga.  This was gold.  Absolute gold in my house.  We were all engaged, all following along, making the animal noises as we were acted them out… and it felt great.  Not only was it cherished time together laughing and playing, it felt GOOD.  Well, it did for me, the kids didn’t really know if they felt better afterwards or not.  But I did.  And I important too!

3.Parent Yoga. The last section is a yoga routine just for the parents.  I have done it a couple times and feel about a foot taller than before I started.

The kids now ask to “yog” – It has become a very fun and interactive play session around our place. I love it!

I am so excited because Tot Yoga has generously offered a copy of their DVD to one lucky winner.
