Weigh-in Wednesday… and the battle of the salad.
Published 18th November, 2009 11 commentsMinus 1 lb for a total of minus 4lb. I am excited and thankful to the Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans for the motivation and accountability!
I still don’t feel or look different. I wonder when the tipping point of feeling the results are noticed by me?
Here’s what I learned this week:
- I am more of an all or nothing kind of gal. I am not someone who can have a small taste of the forbidden fruit. A small taste leads to another taste.. which leads to another.. which leads to the whole buffet. I am best choosing a “cheat time” when I can go for the whole treat and simply enjoy and savour.
- Adding a few slices of purple cabbage to a salad adds a nice crunch and some extra fiber and flavour.
- salads can become tedious very quickly. They are boring and I am running out of ideas on how to zip them up.
What do you put in salads to make them more exciting and enticing? I’d love to hear any ideas or tips you may have!

Congrats on the loss! From one all-or-nothing gal to another, I hear you! As for the salads, I heartily recommend checking out some of the ingredients Susan from http://blog.fatfreevegan.com/ uses in her salads. You don’t have to be vegan to enjoy them! But she comes up with some interesting twists (unusual veg, the addition of fruit, a low-fat but sinfully good dressing) that make the salad a treat, rather than a chore. Good luck!
i’m not a salad girl, i’ve just found yummy low cal foods to eat for lunch (that aren’t centered around lettuce) so i’m no help there!
as far as noticing the weight yourself goes – I lost down to my goal weight before I ever looked in the mirror and ever noticed a change (13 pounds lost). it depends on how mental you are…
Congrats on your loss! You are doing great!
I like a little bit of grilled chicken in my salad. I also love romaine lettuce. For me the more variety (ie more veggies) in it the happier I am with it. I also like a little bit of shredded cheese in mine.
I too am an all or nothing type gal. Can’t just have one bite. At least we know this about ourselves, right?
Hmmm. Salads. I like to add fruit to mine – sliced grapes or apples are nice. And cheese, a little lowfat chevre if you can find it.
how about raisins or craisins, peanuts, almonds, chickpeas or hardboiled egg, croutons? Keep it up, you’re doing great.

A great link – thanks for sharing it! You know the “all or nothing” thing? Just “all-ed some cookies”. Sigh!
@Brooke
So what are the yummy, low cal lunch foods you like? I am all ears!!!

I actually roasted a chicken this week, and it was great for adding to the salads. Thanks for the tip!
