The whole family has to be ready. Our pediatrician said start reading up on it at 18 months, I got nervous and thought ok start reading then thought I am not ready scared of the power struggle you know, when he turned 2, I thought we’re ready…I chatted with one of his teachers at Daycare and she said he is not ready, not showing signs, you will just frustrate yourself. Start chatting about wet pants, dry pants, then take advantage of opportunities – first thing in the morning, right after nap. We made a big deal of it, lots of new used books, stickers, calling family to let them know he is wearing underwear. It was AWESOME to see how proud he was of himself!

Get them used to the potty/toilet by adding it into your bedtime and/or morning routine. It’s an easy way to remember to go. Even if they just want to rip off some toilet paper and hear the flush, it’s a start.

Run a tap – the sound of water dripping can sometimes help quicken the process.
